[edit] Biography

The band takes their name from a poem in J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings in which Evereve is a place where one's dreams may come true. According to the group's keyboardist (and current lead singer) Michael Zeissl, the band also liked the name as it suggested the words "Forever evening", the gloominess of which they found appropriate, and for the fact that it was a palindrome. [2]

During the band's early years, they experimented with genres like black, doom and gothic metal, a similar amalgam as countrymen Agathodaimon, Crematory and Darkseed. On the band's first 2 albums, both clean singing and black metal-styled rasps had been utilized, with lyrics sung in English, Spanish, French and the group's native German.

Their debut release, Seasons, was distributed though Nuclear Blast Records in 1997, and was supported by a tour with Darkseed and Amorphis.[3]. The following year, the band released Stormbirds, with Yorck Eysel (from Love Like Blood) as a guest in the song '...On Lucid Wings', and the Barmbeker Orchestra (the same musicians involved on Therion's Theli album [4]) providing symphonic arrangements. [5]

Shortly after the release of their second album, vocalist Sedotschenko was facing personal problems and parted ways with the band; Benjamin Richter replaced him in 1999. In May of that same year, Sedotschenko committed suicide at the age of 28. The band dedicated their third album, Regret, to his memory. The band switched to Massacre Records with their 2001 album E-Mania; by then, Richter left the band, and Zeissl (the band's existing keyboardist) would take over as vocalist.

On Regret and onwards, the band's style would change to a more synthesizer-driven direction, combining gothic rock, industrial rock and industrial metal, and lyrical content more focused on love, sex and life, a stark contrast to the dark, morbid and melancholic themes of earlier albums.
